A freshman class will join the student body of the Vernon Malone College and Career Academy for the 2015-2016 school year.

WCPSS staff recommended adding the ninth grade to the school’s grade span during the October 7th Board of Education work session, and the Board of Education voted to approve this addition on October 21st.  The school opened this year with students in grades ten through twelve and is under-enrolled.  Its program capacity is 640 students, and it currently serves 131 students.

Students will be able to apply to the school throughout the grade span (grades nine through twelve).  And, efforts will be taken to market the school to middle school students.  Additionally, an earlier concern about the required 3.0 GPA is now moot, as middle school students do not generate grade point averages.
