Wake Education Partnership is pleased to announce that Rev. Marion Robinson, pastor of St. Matthew A.M.E. Church in Raleigh, is the recipient of the 2011 Vernon Malone Friend of Education Award.

The Friend of Education Award, the highest honor given by the Partnership, recognizes individuals who have been unwavering in their support of public education.

Rev. Robinson is co-founder of the Harriet B. Webster Task Force for Student Success. He has worked with Wake County’s educators for nearly two decades to help close the academic achievement gap.

He has also served on the boards of the Poe Center for Health Education and the W.E.B. DuBois Community Development Corporation. He is a former member of the WCPSS Healthy Schools Task Force and the Lacy Elementary School Leadership Team.

As pastor of Saint Matthew A.M.E. Church since 1992, he has encouraged other ministers to foster and create educational opportunities for children. Those efforts helped establish both after school programs and Saturday Morning Enrichment Programs throughout the county. He also has hosted district superintendents in community forums for the past decade.

Rev. Robinson, who is also senior vice president of Financial Systems at the North Carolina State Employees Credit Union, will be recognized at the Partnership’s 2011 Education Summit on Oct. 12 at Embassy Suites in Cary.
