Staff presented the school board with draft three of the 2016-2017 School Enrollment Plan at Tuesday’s work session.  Between drafts two and three there were presentations at seven board advisory councils, three community engagement events around the county, and more opportunities for online feedback and input.

Most attention has been paid to changes recommended for the enrollment of Leesville Road Elementary.  Draft three recommends that seven neighborhoods stay at Leesville Road Elementary rather than move to Pleasant Grove Elementary.  Staff reviewed the Leesville Road Elementary base and non-base populations and found that many Sycamore Creek (year-round) students were choosing a traditional calendar option at Leesville Road.  By changing the calendar option to Pleasant Grove, which opens with a traditional calendar next year, seats became available for those neighborhoods already in place.

Leesville Road Elementary families were happy with the decision.

Kudos to district staff for finding a solution that satisfies families, reduces crowding at Leesville Elementary, and fills Pleasant Grove Elementary.  They work hard to find solutions that best fit students and families.
