Thanks to the financial investment from WakeEd Partnership, students and families in Wake County are receiving support through the First Steps in Literacy programs.
In less than two years, we have Partners Read in ten Wake County schools where 60 volunteers to date read with developing first graders, one-on-one for fifteen minutes. Each week each student selects a book to read and keep for their home collection. Twenty six volunteers returned from the fall and 29 new volunteers started this month, with 5 volunteers serving as substitutes. Our goal is to have Partners Read volunteers in every Wake County Public School over the next several years. With WakeEd’s leadership and collaboration with organizations, this will become a reality. Within Family Engagement initiatives, WakeEd was a collaborative partner with PwC last year to provide financial support for Letterland at Pullen Park. As we are approaching the event in May 2016, WakeEd is assisting us in looking for a corporate sponsor.
Thank you again for supporting the education and engagement of students and families in literacy throughout Wake County.
